Join Denise Kindschi Gosselin, PhD, of the MA Daughters of the American Revolution, Betty Allen Chapter, for a unique thematic exploration of the American Revolution through the voices of the people who lived it. Through pamphlets, newspapers, broadsides, diaries, and letters, discover how ideas, grievances, and revolutionary sentiments spread throughout the colonies long before battles were fought or declarations were signed.
Sci-Fi and Fantasy Book Club

Book Group

Joining a book group has great benefits. You will be encouraged to read more, explore outside genres you normally read, and make new friends. The Granby Library Book Group covers a wide range of genres which include both fiction and non-fiction titles. Group members vote on titles they want to read a few months in advance. The discussions are always very lively and entertaining. Upcoming book titles are available at the library in different formats – regular print, large print, and audio.

Tabletop Games Club

The Granby Library Tabletop Games Club invites players of all ages 8 and up to gather and enjoy a variety of board, card, dice, tile, and other in-person tabletop games in a welcoming, social environment. This club fosters a sense of community by offering a fun and interactive space for people to connect, develop new friendships, and strengthen inter-community relationships through friendly competition and teamwork. Whether you’re a seasoned strategist or a casual gamer, the club provides an opportunity to explore new games, engage with fellow enthusiasts, and contribute to the library’s role as a “third place”—a comfortable and inclusive space beyond home and work where connections flourish.
Foraging Walk
Saturday, September 12th at 11am
Gain greater food security by learning wild and feral edible and medicinal plants and fungi. Using the Library’s grounds learn how to identify and prepare fall foods using common wild edibles that you can find near where you live. Join naturalist and wild edibles enthusiast Arianna Alexsandra Collins of Offerings for Community Building on our foraging walk. She will discuss flora and fungi characteristics for proper identification as well as meal and medicinal preparation. Trailside nibbling during this 1-hour walkabout is encouraged. Month-Long Book Sale
September 1st – 30th
Book lovers! Bargain Hunters! The Friends of the Granby Free Public Library will host their annual Month-Long Fall Book Sale during the month of September in the Community Room of the Library. You will be able to choose from a large assortment of used and like-new hardcover, paperback books, teen books and children’s books, along with a selection of CDs, DVDs, video games and audiobooks. The sale will run during regular library hours from September 1st through 30th.
Starting August 1st, the Library will be accepting donations of hardcover and paperback books, DVDs, music CDs, playable video games, and audiobooks in good condition acceptable for resale. The Library does not accept donations of: Textbooks, encyclopedias, dictionaries, thesauri, Reader’s Digest books, or books with smoke, mold, mildew, or water damage. Donations are accepted at the Library during open hours. Please do not leave donated books outside the library or in our book return. Donations accepted until August 27th.
Vincent van Gogh’s Iris: Learn to Pastel Paint

Learn to pastel paint with award-winning pastel artist Gregory John Maichack. He will present “Vincent van Gogh the Iris: How to Pastel Paint,” a pastel painting workshop for adults and teens 18+ at the Granby Free Public Library. This workshop is designed for both sheer beginners to advanced participants.

The Trial of Lizzie Borden: Whacks and Hacks

Join Honorable Dennis J. Curran, Justice, Massachusetts Superior Court (Ret.) to discuss the famous case of Lizzie Borden! This case presents one of America’s most notorious and enduring murder mysteries. When Andrew and Abby Borden were brutally hacked to death in Fall River, Massachusetts, in August 1892, the arrest of the couple’s younger daughter Lizzie turned the case into international news and her murder trial into a spectacle unparalleled in American history. Reporters flocked to the scene. Well-known columnists took up conspicuous seats in the courtroom. The defendant was relentlessly scrutinized for signs of guilt or innocence. Everyone—rich and poor, suffragists and social conservatives, legal scholars, and laypeople—had an opinion about Lizzie Borden’s guilt or innocence. Was she a cold-blooded murderess or an unjustly persecuted lady? Did she, or didn’t she? An essential piece of American mythology, the popular fascination with the Borden murders has endured for more than one hundred years. Told and retold in every conceivable genre, the murders have secured a place in the American pantheon of mythic horror.
