Lakes and Rivers Talk: Using Barley Straw to Nip Harmful Cyanobacteria Blooms in the Bud!
A local pilot project

Thursday, April 23rd at 5:30pm

Cyanobacteria are normal, essential components of healthy ecosystems.  But when they grow explosively, they can seriously disrupt ecosystems, often releasing potent toxins and causing major adverse health effects. HCBs are dramatically increasing globally and locally in the context of climate change and excess nutrients in both marine and fresh water bodies. Our local consortium is now in its fifth season of a project aimed at preventing these harmful blooms in selected Connecticut River watershed ponds using barley straw. Join Dr. Allison Ryan at the Granby Free Public Library to hear all about the project.

Tabletop Games Club

Saturday, April 25th from 10:30am to 1:30pm

The Granby Library Tabletop Games Club invites players of all ages 8 and up to gather and enjoy a variety of board, card, dice, tile, and other in-person tabletop games in a welcoming, social environment. This club fosters a sense of community by offering a fun and interactive space for people to connect, develop new friendships, and strengthen inter-community relationships through friendly competition and teamwork. Whether you’re a seasoned strategist or a casual gamer, the club provides an opportunity to explore new games, engage with fellow enthusiasts, and contribute to the library’s role as a “third place”—a comfortable and inclusive space beyond home and work where connections flourish.
